The Amphitheatre is a prominent portion of the northern Drakensberg mountains, the highest range of mountains in South Africa.The Amphitheatre wall which is 1,000 metres high and stretches over 5 km, is site to the World's second highest waterfall, the Tugela Falls. The park is part of the greater World Heritage site, Drakensberg Ukhahlamba National Park.
Witsieshoek resort is the highest resort in South Africa and sits on the edge of the lower Berg in the Drakensberg mountains where the Free State and Kwazulu-Natal Provinces meet. During winter heavy snow occasionally causes the area to be snow-bound from the lower lying areas of the Drakensberg.
